It is a way of starving oneself to look perfect, when in reality anorexia distorts the body image.


In Type 1 diabetes, which is also known as insulin dependent diabetes, the pancreas stops the production of insulin in the body, causing a deficiency. Insulin is essential for the proper functioning of the body as it allows glucose to fuel the cells.

Due to this reason, the body is unable to process the calorie intake through fats and carbohydrates. At the same time, diabetics have a low body glucose level as they pass glucose through their urine. These are the reasons why people with diabetes tend to lose weight drastically, even though their appetite might not get affected at all.

Laxatives Or Purgatives

There are many who suffer from constipation and are not able to relieve themselves properly every morning. They require the help of laxatives or purgatives. The main effect of purgatives is that they help empty out the bowels by increasing bowel movements, which can hold up to 2–10 pounds of feces and losing that from your body means losing the same mass from your overall weight.

Regular usage of laxatives can cause damage to the large intestine. It hampers the body’s capability to absorb essential nutrients like carbohydrates and does not retain fat anymore. Due to this the body loses the ability to maintain a good weight.


The body secretes the thyroid hormone which helps generate energy and regulate weight and body temperature. When the body produces too much of the thyroid hormone, it is called hyperthyroidism. This results in drastic weight loss.

The reason behind is that when too much thyroid is produced in the body, there is excess energy created and in the process of burning the energy, the person burns a lot of calories, which in turn results in involuntary weight loss. Also, people who suffer from hyperthyroidism have a faster metabolism and digestion rate. So, they will be seen eating more than a regular person of the same body mass, but will either fail to put on weight or keep losing weight.
